Business Development Manager – South Wales

Field Based | Company Car | Uncapped Earning Potential | Commission on Invoiced Work

Want a sales role where the business you win directly impacts what you earn?

Drainforce is looking for a driven, commercially minded Business Development Manager to grow our presence across South Wales.

This isn't a desk-based sales job.

You'll be out on the road, meeting businesses, opening doors, building relationships and turning opportunities into long-term customers. You'll have the backing of an established operational team, a company car and a commission structure designed to reward the work you bring into the business.

The Opportunity

We're looking for someone who knows how to create business, not simply manage existing accounts. Your territory will cover South Wales, developing local drainage and associated service work while also creating opportunities for our tankering services across the region, from East Wales through to West Wales.

You'll have the freedom to build relationships with businesses and organisations throughout the territory and develop your own pipeline.

Potential customers could include:

  • Facilities and property management companies
  • Industrial and manufacturing sites
  • Construction companies and contractors
  • Councils and local authorities
  • Holiday parks, caravan parks and campsites
  • Hotels, hospitality and leisure businesses
  • Retail and commercial sites
  • Housing associations and property organisations
  • Farms and rural businesses
  • Schools, colleges and other public-sector organisations
  • Businesses requiring regular or reactive drainage and tankering support

What You'll Be Doing

Getting out there. This is a highly field-based position, so expect to spend a significant amount of your week on the road meeting customers, visiting sites and developing new opportunities.

Winning new business. You'll identify prospects, make introductions, arrange meetings, visit sites and convert opportunities into invoiced work.

Preparing and completing quotations. You'll be responsible for taking opportunities from the initial site visit through to preparing and completing accurate customer quotations for the required works. You'll follow those quotations through, answer customer queries and work to convert them into confirmed jobs.

Growing local Drainforce work. You'll actively increase our presence within local South Wales businesses and organisations, turning one-off jobs into repeat customers and longer-term relationships.

Developing our tankering business. A key focus will be identifying and winning tankering opportunities across the South Wales corridor, from East to West.

Building relationships that last. We don't just want quick wins. You'll develop relationships with customers so that when they need drainage or tankering support, Drainforce is the company they call first.

Your Earning Potential

This role is designed for somebody who is motivated by results.

Alongside your competitive basic salary and company car, you'll have a performance-related bonus based on the invoiced work you generate.

The more successful you are at developing profitable new business, the greater your earning potential.

We'll give you the operational capability and support to deliver the work — your job is to find the opportunities, quote the works and bring the business through the door.

Who We're Looking For

You don't necessarily need to come from the drainage industry.

We're more interested in finding a natural business developer who enjoys being out meeting people and has the confidence and determination to create opportunities from scratch.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous B2B sales or business development experience
  • A proven ability to generate and close new business
  • Confidence approaching businesses and decision-makers
  • Strong face-to-face communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to carry out site visits and prepare professional quotations
  • A commercial, target-driven mindset
  • Good knowledge of South Wales and its business community
  • The ability to manage your own territory, quotations and sales pipeline
  • Strong organisation and follow-up skills
  • A full UK driving licence

Experience within drainage, waste, tankering, utilities, facilities management, construction, environmental services or another field-service industry would be advantageous, but it's not essential for the right salesperson.

What You'll Get

  • Competitive basic salary
  • Company car provided
  • Attractive commission / bonus based on invoiced work
  • Strong earning potential for high performers
  • A large South Wales territory with genuine scope for growth
  • Support from an experienced operational team
  • The opportunity to build your own customer base and develop repeat business
  • A role where your results are visible, valued and rewarded

This Role Will Suit You If...

You're not interested in spending five days a week behind a desk.

You like getting out, meeting businesses, visiting sites and spotting opportunities.

You're comfortable picking up the phone, walking onto sites, introducing yourself and starting conversations.

You can take an opportunity from first conversation → site visit → quotation → confirmed job → invoiced work.

And most importantly, you get a buzz from winning business and want your earnings to reflect the results you deliver.
