Pen Y Wen Culvert Slip Lining

Case Study Number: Dyer and Butler Work Activity: Cleaning Jetting Confined Space Entry CCTV Slip Lining
Contract Value: £54,000.00 Date: 2022

Drainforce were tasked with slip lining a 550mm box culvert 8m deep under a Network Rail Railway Track.

The Culvert in question is 21m long had a full collapse at 17m.

Due to the collapse, it was not possible to get bursting Rods through the sewer and drilling was not an option.

Drainforce provide a solution with use of its Robotic Cutters feeding through a wire rope to allow SDR17 450mm pipe to be winched into position using a 10t winch.

Large invert slabs had fallen from the invert which would of wedged the pipe and stopped the pipe being winched into position.

Our Robot was used to drill into the slabs cutting them into smaller sections to allow our 32t recycler to jet out the debris so there was a clear and clean run to winch the pipe over.

The SDR pipe was fusion welded with a slip trench to feed the pipe into the culvert.

A 10t winch was positioned on the down stream section with Rollers drilled into position to allow the pipe to be pulled through.

Syphon Removal with Robotic Cutting

Client: Welsh Water Work Activity: Syphon Removal with Robotic Cutting
Location: Cardiff Date: Aug 2021

Problem:

Removal of 100mm in-line Syphon and repair Syphon void.

Solution:

Drainforce have successfully completed their third trial of removing syphons with the use of robotic cutters. The process involves the use of robotic cutting techniques and patch repair technology. The concept was first trialled above ground in a mock situation whereas a 225mm syphon was cut and patch line repaired.

Working with key clients we then progressed onto a live site and successfully removed a 150mm syphon and replaced with a 1m long patch repair. The third trial took place on the 24th of August where we were asked to remove an inline 100mm syphon at a depth of 2m beneath the boundary wall. The syphon was cut out and patch repaired in just six hours.

EASTERN VALLEY TRUNK SEWER FLOOD

Client: DCWW Work Activity: Investigate and clear blockage
Location: Pontypool, South Wales Date: Dec 2020

Problem:

A 700mm diameter trunk sewer was found to be discharging and causing serious flooding to a local business yard and premises.

Solution:

First step was to deploy our 32t Dirty Water Recycler to attempt the jetting and removal of any obstructions. There was an obstruction that we were unable to move, so a visual inspection was required.

Due to the huge flows present within the sewer, CCTV was not possible without over pumping. This was achieved with the use of two large diesel pumps and over 250m of delivery pipe.To remove the roots and the debris we utilised our robotic cutting rig to cut away the roots and debris thus allowing us to jet out the wheel and clear the blockage.
