Reinforcing Our Safety Culture Across All Regions

Drainforce recently conducted a nationwide Safety Stand Down involving all operational teams across the business. The purpose of the initiative was to reinforce our commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing while ensuring full re-familiarisation with our procedures, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.

Given the high-risk environments in which we operate — including confined space entry, high-pressure water jetting, UV lining, flow control, and traffic management — maintaining rigorous safety standards is fundamental to protecting our people, clients, and the public.

Key Objectives of the Stand Down

The day focused on:

Reviewing core Health & Safety procedures
Revalidating understanding of task-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements
Reinforcing Safe Systems of Work
Encouraging open discussion around site-based risks and control measures

To ensure meaningful engagement, teams participated in an open-book knowledge assessment , enabling operatives to reference procedures while demonstrating understanding in a supportive environment. This approach reinforced practical competence rather than simple recall, ensuring teams can confidently apply controls in real-world situations.

Proven performance secures new £5m framework over 8 years for South Wales and the Southwest

Drainforce Limited has once again been appointed by Welsh Water to deliver a wide range of sewer rehabilitation works and services across South Wales. The new contract framework, valued at approximately £5 million with a potential term of up to eight years, was awarded following Drainforce’s strong track record of performance on the previous framework, which positioned the company ahead of its competition.

The scope of services includes:

- Full length lining

- Patch lining

- Pipe preparation

- Managing flows

- Liner design

- Robotic cutting

- Sewer cleaning

- Sealing and manhole coatings

- CCTV

- Blockage clearances

- Full length lining and patching on all gravity sewers, including under railways

- Rehabilitation works on all sewer sizes, both circular and non-circular

Drainforce Limited Awarded Targeted Catchment Investigation Contract Across Thames Water Region

Drainforce Limited has been awarded a contract to deliver targeted catchment investigations across the entire Thames Valley Water region.

Scope of Works

The project will be managed by a dedicated Project Manager, supported by AIS Technicians and eight specialist teams. Each team will be equipped with a City Recycler, a 7.5-tonne City Flex unit, and Jevan CCTV combination units to carry out investigations efficiently.

Innovative GIS and AIS Integration

Drainforce will deploy its newly designed in-house GIS system to conduct targeted "hot surveys," enabling precise identification of root causes and proactive blockage clearance. This system aims to improve first-time resolution rates, minimising disruption for customers.

Focus on Innovation and First-Time Resolutions

By leveraging advanced Root Cutting, Desilting, and Rehabilitation techniques— including patching and lining—Drainforce aims to prevent repeat blockages and enhance network resilience. The integration of AIS technology will ensure data-driven decision-making, optimising service delivery and long-term efficiency.

The new recycler enhances Drainforce’s capabilities with its compact size, enabling access to challenging and remote locations. Equipped with an integrated CCTV Minicam system within the reel, it offers a convenient, all-in-one solution for post-cleaning CCTV surveys. Rhondda Cynon Taff award Drainforce a 5 year contract

Drainage and Gully Cleaning across the council network.

Drainforce are proud to have been awarded a 5 year contract with Rhondda Cynon Taff Council completing all Gully Cleaning across the Network.

Drainforce have designed their own mapping system to map out all the council's gullys in real time, recording defects and work live from site. All details are overlaid onto a Esri map and Dash board for real time viewing.

We have also purchased two new 18t high volume jet vacs which will be deployed from Whale Tankers. Both Tankers will be located at our new Porth office Drainforce Ltd, Old Chaff House, Britannia St, Porth CF39 9LT. We look forward to working with RCT Council and are proud to be awarded the works.

The continued addition of works is testament to the hard work of the crews and innovation of our new systems completing Gully Sucking across South Wales.

Reggie's Rescue

Our drain cameras saved the day!

We are always proud of our team, but never more so than when they go out of their way to help the communities in which they work. Lockdown legends and baby-carriers, they're now puppy rescuers!

Poor Reggie fell down a mountain crevice and not even the fire service or mountain rescuers could get to him. That's when our very own Harry and Neil came to the rescue after a plea on Facebook from Reggie's owner.

Using one of our high-tech drainage cameras, Harry and Neil were able to get eyes on Reggie at the bottom of the hole (see photo) which then enabled his rescue. Everyone pulled together, it was a real community and team effort, and thankfully Reggie was pulled to safety.

The First in Wales

Drainforce have taken delivery of their New Canal Master, the first to be delivered to Wales.

The Canal Master offers better recycling compared to many European counterparts and can work with fine sands and Fat and Grease without having issues of Filters blocking up.

The truck offers 200bar jetting with 3500 cfm so able to Jet and Suck from large distances or high lifts.

Drainforce Wins New Contract for Sewer Rehabilitation Services for Thames Water

We are happy to announce that we have been chosen by Thames Water on three Lots under their new Sewer Rehabilitation framework, delivering Lot 1 (Structural Lining and Patch Repairs), Lot 2 (Leak Tight Lining and Associated Manhole Sealing) and Lot 5 (Complex sewer rehabilitation, including sewers crossing railways), for up to 8 years. The total spend across all five Lots is estimated to be in the region of £103m over the max term of 8 years.

The scope of the sewer rehabilitation for the 3 Lots includes;

Pipe preparation,
Managing flows,
Liner design,
Robotic cutting,
Sewer cleaning,
Sealing and manhole coatings,
CCTV,
Sewer cleaning,

Drainforce Win New Contract with Monmouthshire Council

Drainforce’s continued innovation in our Highway Mapping System has led to another successful highway maintenance contract with Monmouth Council for the next 5 years. Works includes cyclic cleaning of gullies and reactive call out works responding to flooding and blockages.

We've deployed our new 18t High Volume vacs with increased suction and jetting. Coupled with our Mapping Software we continue to lead In the field.

Drainforce Urgent Response To Hole In The Road

For Newport County Council

Drainforce Limited were called to an urgent response for Newport County Council, after a hole appeared in a main road. Drainforce quickly mobilised on site and completed excavation investigation work that uncovered a collapsed surface water culvert that is over 100 years old and was not marked on any drainage records.

The road is closed for vehicles whilst we are working to clean the culvert with one our state of the art 32t Waste Water Recyclers and this is supported on site with a CCTV main team to survey the drainage to ensure the its clean and Newport County Councils' drainage records can be updated.

The final stage of the work will include repairing the culvert, where specialist materials are being manufactured to meet the job requirements, these materials are special delivery items and have been fast-tracked through manufacture because of the urgency of the job. When the repair has been completed the excavation area will be backfilled with foamed concrete and the road tarmacked and opened back up for vehicular use. The duration of the works is 2 weeks to complete.

A great example of teamwork and collaboration, we're pleased to help the Newport community and council. Thanks to our contract with Newport County Council, residents can rest assured that our expertise and commitment means the work will be delivered to the highest standard and importantly, that the issue will be rectified for the future.

The Things You Find in a Sewer

Upon attendance to a major flooding incident in December 2020 Drainforce quickly realised they were up against a serious blockage.

A 700mm diameter trunk sewer was found to be discharging and causing serious flooding to a local business yard and premises.

We deployed our 32t Dirty Water Recycler to attempt the jetting and removal of any obstructions. The initial jetting began, and we came across an obstruction at approximately 45m. No matter what nozzle we used we were struggling to break through.

A visual inspection was needed to see what we were up against!

Due to the huge flows present within the sewer CCTV was not possible without over pumping. This was achieved with the use of two large diesel pumps and over 250m of delivery pipe.

What did We Find?

The first obstruction we found was a car wheel entangled in roots, rags and debris hence the reason we could not penetrate the blockage with jetting.

To remove the roots and the debris we utilised our robotic cutting rig to cut away the roots and debris thus allowing us to jet out the wheel and clear the blockage.

Job done! Or so we thought.

As there was over-pumping in place it made sense to continue the CCTV downstream to make sure there was no other obstructions present before returning the flows.

What did we Find?

Three more car wheels and a manhole cover were found and successfully removed from the sewer. The flows were returned, and problem solved.

We are delighted to congratulate James Gordon, one of brilliant jetting engineers. James was nominated by a customer for Welsh Water's 'Diolch Award', because "James was so reassuring and showed great warmth and empathy."

Unfortunately our client was feeling overwhelmed and physically sick from the drain blockage at her home, and James managed to help her through the situation by clearing the blockage quickly and efficiently, at the same time talking to the lady and putting her mind at rest.

Welsh Water agreed that James went over and above and delivered outstanding customer care, awarding him the much-coveted 'Diolch' award.

Managing Director, David Evans, commented "In my opinion, every person on the team deserves an award for their ongoing customer care and hard work. It's fantastic to see one of the team receive recognition and this prestigious award. Well done James, we're beyond proud.

Drainforce Ltd successfully renewed their RISQS scheme for Network Rail and London Underground for their continued works on the Rails.

RISQS is the UK's rail supplier assurance scheme which allows buyers to ensure the supply chain meet specific industry requirements for the tasks they do on the rail.

Drainforce have taken delivery of a new JHL remote reel that is used with our recyclers so we can track off-road and access narrow areas to work. It has 200m of hose and it has hydraulic adjustable track width and extendable front stability arms, all for increased safety.

Drainforce Carry Out Essential Culvert Maintenance

Why is this news important?

Many rural properties have culverts. A culvert is a ditch that runs beside (or under) a road or driveway. Culverts give excess water a place to collect and drain into a larger drainage system or into the ground. Culvert maintenance is important because an unmaintained culvert can cause drainage problems, and can damage roads and driveways.

Culverts tend to fill with natural debris, such as weeds, grass and other summer growth as well as leaves, silt over time can also cause drainage problems. Culvert cleaning on this project had man-made debris littered in the drainage system and we are taking tons of this litter out just on one project.

Please remember the drainage system is for water to pass safely through to prevent flooding.

How can this be avoided?

It's simple; don't drop litter. Dispose of litter correctly and do not use drainage systems as a bin!

Our Work May be Dirty But Our Fleet Is Clean!

We're very proud of our team, they're hard working, deliver a great service for our customers and clients, and have great ideas!

Our latest addition - a top spec hot jet washer - was an idea that came from one of our recent employee engagement surveys. Obviously the work we do at Drainforce is not the cleanest, to say the least! So to keep our fleet clean and hygienic, we've installed this fantastic new cleaning system.

This is obviously even more crucial at the moment in light of this pandemic. We want our customers and clients to be reassured that we're taking every possible step to keep everyone safe. So having a clean, hygienic fleet alongside all of the other measure we have in place, is important to us.

The cleanliness of our fleet also contributes to good maintenance and ensures our trucks pass inspections with flying colours.

These visits are essential to understand how we can continually improve safety and the visits keep our Directors close to employee challenges, which is fundamental to developing our continuous safety improvements and behavioural safety.

Drainforce Awarded Contract with Vale of Glamorgan

Drainforce Awarded Surface Water, Sewer Re-lining and Restoration Works Contract

Drainforce are pleased to announce that we have been awarded the complete maintenance improvement works contract with the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

The nature of the maintenance works will include re-lining of the surface water drainage system, and the removal and disposal of tree roots and silt, all in order to ensure that the council-owned surface water drainage system is fit for purpose, reducing the likelihood of flooding incidents within the Vale of Glamorgan.

David Evans, Drainforce Managing Director, said:

"This is great news to have been awarded this important contract to carryout the maintenance and rehabilitation on the council large diameter drainage system. The solution will be state of the art non-dig drainage techniques that include cutting out roots using our specialist robotic cutting equipment, removal of silt and debris using our high volume dirty water recyclers and our bespoke 4x4 UV lining rig will be used to cure the liner, which is essentially a new pipe within an old pipe. The last stage of the work is a complete CCTV drainage survey of the pipe rehabilitated drainage system to hand back to the client with a 70 year guarantee."

This new contract is further validation or our expansion and investment plans.

New Contract with Monmouthshire County Council

Drainforce are delighted to announce that we have been successful in our tender to provide Specialist Highway Drainage Services across South East Wales. The contract with Monmouthshire County Council has been awarded to us up to 2024, with optional additional years.

The work will involve cleaning and maintaining the drainage infrastructure on the high speed Motorway and Trunk Road Network. This contract award is part of our continuous business growth and expansion of our client base.

Drainforce Maintaining Drainage on 268 miles of South Wales Trunk Roads

Most people don't spare a thought for the importance of road drainage, and why would they?

For us, it's an integral part of what we do. In fact, we've recently completed the cleaning of 268 miles of trunk roads across south Wales. Without this essential work, drains would become blocked with roots, debris, etc, meaning roads would become unsafe due to to the lack of drainage.

As you can imagine, this type of work takes very careful planning to minimise disruption. As such, the majority of work is done at night to save traffic congestion during the day.

We were able to carry out this work due to our multi-million pound vehicle investment programme. Our brand new, bespoke vehicle has state of the art equipment, increasing efficiency and quality of work.

Doubling Up As Removal And Delivery Drivers

Many businesses are having to adapt to survive and support those that are at home. With engineering plants are being asked to manufacture ventilators to support the NHS, we also want to do our bit which is why we registered as volunteers with the NHS.

As a result, the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend contacted us to see if we could help get the Clinical Director back to work. Caught half way between a house move when the lock down was implemented, he has been unable to complete the move and get back to work. Luckily, we were able to respond quickly and help complete the move and were obviously very happy to help. The Clinical Director is now able to continue with his essential work.

David Evans, Drainforce Managing Director said;

“We are very pleased that we are in a position where we can provide help in response to the NHS outreach for volunteers at this critical time. We have had control measures in place before the Coronavirus impacted on the UK, so we have a full compliment of employees to support clients, customers and also help the NHS and the vulnerable at this difficult time.”

Drainforce have also registered with the charity BAVO (Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations) and dedicated a van and driver to deliver to the vulnerable and elderly throughout this pandemic.

Our new robotic cutters can cut through anything

Our robotic cutters can cut concrete, rocks, stone, encrustation, bricks, intruding connections and nearly all hard materials - pretty much anything!

The latest development has been to cut remotely through a 16mm steel pile that has been driven through a large diameter sewer. We now have the skills and equipment to remove all hard materials in sewers, pipes and culverts.

It's important to us to make sure we have the right tools for any job, no matter how complex.

Check out our high-flow surveying "Go Boat"

With extensive flooding we have been commissioned by a client to look at a solution for surveying large diameter drainage systems where the flow and unknown conditions prevent a standard CCTV survey being completed. Our solution is a drainage surveying boat, with recording and lighting functionality, that provides a clear recording for the survey.

The ‘Go Boat’ has been used successfully to complete a number of investigations for our clients, which has given us the flexibility to complete a survey and identify obstructions in circumstances that we wouldn't previously have been able to work in. Due to this, we have been able to undertake work that has prevented flooding to many customer's properties.

Another example of our commitment to innovation in order to keep drains running efficiently.

We couldn't be prouder of Rob, he's a fantastic member of the team and a genuinely nice guy. Proven here by stopping to help Jade when he could see she was struggling. This won't have been his only act of kindness that day, he'd have gone on to repair drain blockages in the South Wales area somewhere, ensuring free flowing water drainage, from which the whole community benefits.

Our Van's Get A Makeover

Getting ready for the CCTV makeover!

Drainforce's new 4WD crafter vans arrive at IBOS for conversion in to state-of-the-art CCTV rigs!

Able to survey from 150mm to 2000m with inclination and laser surveys built into the camera units, these units are battery powered with 500m of main cable drum for long surveys. In addition they have portable trolleys and manual reels so we are able to take the CCTV systems out of the vans with a lighter manual drum for surveys in remote areas.

What does all this mean for our customers? It means we have even better access, can produce higher quality reports which in turn leads to exceptional customer care when sorting out your drainage issues.

And on top of all that - they even have a fridge and microwave for the guys! So feel free to ask for a cuppa if you see us about ☕️

Four year contract with Dwr Cymru Welsh Water

It's been a successful first year with Dwr Cymru Welsh Water

We're thrilled to have achieved 'upper performance' for the first year of a four year network operating services contract with Dwr Cymru Welsh Water. The contract is an exclusive contractor arrangement working on the waste water network across South East and South West Wales dealing with drain blockages, CCTV surveying, de-silting, root cutting, robotic cutting, proactive inspections and maintenance.

We're celebrating this success with employee recognition for achieving such great performance measures, which include health, safety, response performance, right first time, no flooding or pollution incidents and customer service measures.

Drainforce continue to support Dwr Cymru Welsh Water’s charity fund.

Water Aid is an international organisation whose mission is to transform the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people.

"Clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene are basic human rights. They should be a normal part of daily life for everyone, everywhere - but they aren't. Providing these essentials enables entire communities to unlock their potential, break free from poverty and change their lives for good."

Since 1981 Water Aid has helped reach 27 million with clean water. But reaching everyone is still a huge task that needs support. With 2 billion people still in need of toilets. Therefore, it’s crucial that aid continues to be invested in water and sanitation infrastructure for those in need.

Big pipes need big wheels

Tractor wheels on CCTV camera

The larger the property or premises, the larger and more complex your drainage system will be. This CCTV camera is adept at finding blockages in pipes with large diameters, because the super-sized tractor wheels place the camera at a higher level than the standard CCTV camera rigs.

The large wheels raise the camera higher above the bottom of the pipe, where there is water flowing through. Smaller wheels would not raise the camera lens above the water, so effectively the survey would just be a blur with it being under water. Raising the lens above water level delivers a successful, clear CCTV survey.

This particular camera has just resolved a 3rd party obstruction within a large diameter trunk sewer in Newport, returning the flow to normal. All in a days work for this small but mighty piece of drainage equipment.

What a view...

Drainforce engineers see things that most people wouldn't want to see in their whole life. Emptying cesspits, digging out drains, it's not the glamorous life that most of us dream about ��

But a few of our engineers were treated to this beautiful view in the Brecon Beacons National Park last week. They'd just completed a day of planned septic tank emptying for customers new and old, when the sun started to set. Had they been feet up at home, they'd have missed this amazing view.

Who wouldn't want to be treated to this on a Sunday evening? Happy customers + this view = a really good day.

Two new 4x4's expand our fleet!

Continued excitement at Drainforce HQ as we have taken delivery of the first additions to our 4x4 van fleet. Our vans of choice are a MAN TGE 3.180 4x4, known for its safety, reliability and sleek design. Our new fleet members mean that we can deliver a fast and efficient services to our clients, whilst looking after the environment.

Why are these vans so important?

1. They are the best tools for the job

Our new 4x4 van’s will be used as CCTV mainline van plus we also have a 4x4 jetvan. These van’s will allow us to access all different types of terrains in order to complete the most complexed jobs in rural areas. Just give us the location and we can get there!

2. Safety

They provide the latest modern features to keep our engineers safe. They have full all-round reverse sensors and top of the range reversing cameras, collision sensor, and blind spot and lane depart warnings.

3. Saves time and money

Use of these vehicles will reduce costs for us and our clients. We are now able to reach places we have not previously been able to reach without needing extra equipment on site.

4. Environmentally friendly

Use of a single 4x4 unit will reduce emissions as extra equipment will no longer be required for use in rural areas.

One day on the fleet and the vans are already out doing their job. ��
